What New Car Should You Be Looking To Buy?

By: James Ruppert
60th anniversary mini

This is yet another year of anniversaries so it's a great time to buy a special edition version of your favourite car. Like the MINI 60, or Mazda MX-5, but maybe you just want a well equipped family car like a Renault Captur, it is a special edition model though.

New Car - 60th Anniversary Mini

The MINI 3-door Hatch Cooper S 60 Years Edition will only be available with an automatic gearbox, which seems like a strange decision for a sporty car. Maybe not many buyers care about that anymore. What they will be interested in is the distinctly designed interior with model specific finishes using the 60 Years emblem, including the steering wheel and front seats. The seats are finished with MINI Yours Leather Lounge in Dark Cacao with contrast seat stitching and piping matching the new exterior paintwork exclusive for this vehicle.

Navigation Plus pack is included, providing a larger 8.8 touch display with Satellite Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, concierge service and wireless charging. In addition, a rear view camera, folding exterior mirrors and front and rear Park Distance Control (PDC) can be found on the vehicle, courtesy of the Comfort Plus Pack.

What might help the future resale value is the limited run of 500 models which will be priced at a substantial £29,990.

30th Anniversary Mazda MX-5

If the MINI doesn't quite do it for you, then perhaps the Mazda MX-5 might be a bit more hardcore. First of all it's hard to miss the striking Racing Orange paintwork of the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition. It also features forged aluminium wheels developed exclusively for the MX-5 in cooperation with Rays Co Ltd. and a 30th anniversary badge displaying the model’s serial number. Other unique features include orange brake callipers, and for the first time in the UK, Brembo front brakes.

Inside, there's more orange on the seats, door trim, dashboard, steering wheel, air vents and gear lever. There are upmarket touches courtesy of the Recaro seats and Alcantara trim on the door trim and instrument panel. It also features Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard.

Just 3,000 cars will be produced globally and the UK will receive 600 of them, 400 convertibles at £28,095 and 200 RFs (Retractable Fastback) at £28,895.

How About A Speical Edition Renault Captur?

Not all special editions are actually that special. Here's a Renault Captur S Edition. Prices start at a very reasonable £19,625. It's got a funky new interior, which includes Alcantara upholstery with red stitching and a dark roof lining.

On the outside the Captur S Edition has exclusive 17-inch, ‘Filante’ alloy wheels. There is lots of standard high technology as including a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Here's a slightly funky family SUV with more room than a MINI 60 or a Mazda MX-5. In the short term it makes practical sense. In the future we don’t see those limited editions going up in value, so we would part exchange the Renault for either the MINI or Mazda. That’s the clever way to eventually get the special edition car you want.
